At first glance the report looked like it was reporting good news.
A big "pass" indicator written proudly at the top of the first page.
"We can crack on and build now, right?"
Well, not quite.

Reading between the lines.
Without the full technical knowledge to read between the lines of the heavily engineered report, they missed the observations and recommendations buried in the detail.
The kind of detail that doesn't change the headline but absolutely changes what happens
on the roof.
While the initial report gave the overall go-ahead, it contained a subtle but critical exclusion zone.
A specific section of the roof was prone to severe snow drift accumulation.

The client didn't see it.
Not because they were careless, but because structural engineering speaks its own language.
And unless you speak it back, the critical stuff gets lost in translation.
So, we spoke the language for them.
We reviewed the technical report and understood it for them. Not just the conclusion, but the observations, the caveats, and the small print that carries the real weight (pun intended).

We translated the exclusion zone into the design.
We revised the solar array to ensure it complied with the structural report.
But this wasn't the end of the conversation, because the change to the solar array meant that the ballast calculation needed to be revised too.
We then censor checked the new ballast calculation against the structural report, ensuring that the new loadings were permissible for the structure.

We didn't just flag the risk.
We solved it.
Working in partnership with the Structural Engineer, in language they understood, with a method the installation team could actually use.

The result?
The project moved forward, but with a safer, more efficient design. By catching the exclusion zone early, we prevented a costly redesign mid-installation and avoided potential structural risks.
The client got a clear, practical explanation of what the structural survey actually meant for their project, not just what it said in the summary.
More than that, they now understand that "pass" is the beginning of the conversation, not the end.
